Compass Church Membership Covenant:

At Compass, our desire is to encourage members to do what the Bible expects of every Christian. We know we are all flawed, so it’s about your direction, not perfection. When you mess up, commit to cleanup.

Having:
• Received Christ as my Lord and Savior, and having been baptized since that time,

• and agreeing with Compass Church's statements, strategy, and structure,

• I commit myself to uniting with the Compass Church family.

In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to live out these principles:
• Follow Christ’s direction in the Bible. (2 Timothy 3:16–17) By agreeing to follow the Bible, you are committing to live within the clear boundaries of scripture, and you are willing to change when
made aware that your lifestyle is contrary to the Word.

• Abstain from sexual immorality. (1 Thessalonians 4:3) Sexual immorality includes all sexual expression outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. As a member, you commit to
seeking sexual freedom personally, standing for God’s design of sexuality, and repenting when/if you fall short.

• Support the testimony of my church by seeking to live a godly life. (Philippians 1:27) As a member, you commit to representing Jesus and Compass Church well by seeking to live the way God asks us to live (character, modesty, service)

•Protect the unity of the church by refusing to gossip or promote division. (Titus 3:10-11) Division is deadly to a church. We don’t start gossip or participate in it. As a member, you commit to be wise in your speech and nip division in the bud when you hear it.

• Attend Faithfully. (Hebrews 10:24–25) When I’m in town, I will do my best to attend faithfully.

In addition to these, we agree to abide by the Heart Attitudes:
1. Put the goals and interests of OTHERS above your own.
Philippians 2:3–4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
• We seek to follow Jesus’ example by putting others over us.

2. Live an OPEN, HONEST life before others.
Ephesians 4:25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
• True fellowship requires authenticity. We must be willing to be real with others and open about
our struggles.

3. Clear up RELATIONSHIPS.
Matthew 5:23–24 Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
• If you have an issue with someone in the church, you must make it right as soon as you can.

4. Give and receive scriptural CORRECTION.
Galatians 6:1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
• You are opening yourself up to loving, scriptural correction in areas that you may not be following Jesus. You also have the responsibility to lovingly address issues you see in others.

5. Participate in the MINISTRY of the church.
1 Peter 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
• We all have a role to play. Part of joining the church means finding a way to serve the mission of the church by using your gifts.
• As a member, Group Life is required to follow Biblical commands to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds." (Hebrews 10:24-25) Life change happens in the context of community.

6. Support the church FINANCIALLY.
Galatians 6:6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.
• We are to give through the church as God works in the lives of people and to provide for those who are teaching others spiritually.

7. FOLLOW spiritual leadership within Scriptural limits.
Hebrews 13:17 Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
• Make life easy for your leaders and follow them as long as they are following the Bible. If it’s not clearly against the Bible, give your leader the benefit of the doubt and follow for the sake of unity.

These are the commitments you make as a member of the church, along with as we work together to invite everyone to find and follow Jesus. As a member, you agree to live by these principles and attitudes.
